Crowning of Mary during our May Procession

Wednesday 25th May 2023

Led by the Chaplaincy Team, Prayer Club and those pupils who have just made their First Holy Communion

Crowning of Mary

Wednesday 24th May 2023

Order of Service

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

When our Risen Lord appeared to his disciples on Easter Sunday, he said, "Peace be with you." We can be confident that he desires this same peace for all the members of his body, the Church and for the people of the entire world, especially where there is a war or conflict.

We turn to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church and Queen of Peace, to ask that she intercede with her Son for all those who are affected in any way. As we renew the consecration of our school, our country and of ourselves to the Mother of the God, we implore her maternal care for her children. On this day in May, the month of Mary, we also crown with a floral crown this holy image of Our Lady, the Mother of God.

May our Heavenly Queen's floral crown be a sign of her victory over all her difficulties

Opening Prayer:

Let us pray,

O God, Father of mercies,

whose only Begotten Son, as he hung upon the cross,

chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, his mother,

to be our Mother also,

grant, we pray, that with her loving help

your Church may be more fruitful day by day

and, exulting in the holiness of her children,

may draw to her embrace all the families of the peoples.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Scripture Reading:
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John (John 19:25-27)

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son." Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

The Gospel of the Lord. R/ Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Decade of the Rosary

Recalling Jesus' words as he hung on the cross - "behold, your mother" - we meditate on the fifth glorious mystery as we remember Mary being crowned the Queen of heaven and earth. The Chaplaincy will lead us in the decade.

Blessing of Crown and Crowning of Mary

Heavenly Father, we praise you for the gift of your Mother, Mary. Bless this crown. May it remind us of Mary's coronation in Heaven when you crowned her Queen of Heaven and Earth. Through the prayers of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, whom you have given us for our Mother and Queen, grant that we too may share in the fullness of your grace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

Parents Views on Our Masses:

Parent:

Mass feedback (January 2023):

Every time I have attended, it has always been really lovely. All the children walk in nicely and all the readers do a great job.

As a parent I always feel very welcome to be there. We receive email updates to remind us when and what time to attend (these are great!)

I also really love how the older children pair up with the younger children to help get them their safely and show them how to behave etc.

Both my children in Reception really enjoy walking with their 'big' partner.

Overall, as a parent it is always a lovely experience.

Parent:

Mass feedback (January 2023):

Behaviour of children: Excellent

Engagement of children: Good

Singing: Needs improvement

How well the readers read: excellent

Support of staff towards the children: excellent

Improvements to be made:

Definitely singing.

What is good:

I think it shows good awareness of keeping in time with the music and others, reading, confidence in voice etc. Good practice in reading.

The masses are lovely and they do so well! Well done! (Just a bit more emphasis on singing I think!)
