Cathedral Music Outreach Programme - 2022

Over the past few weeks, the year 4, 5 and 6 children from St Joseph and St Teresa Catholic Primary School have worked with Naomi Macleod-Jones to create a musical project as part of the Wells Cathedral outreach program. Since the end of April, the children have worked for an hour each Thursday to perfect their performance which was held this Thursday in the Cathedral. The children were lucky enough to work with our visiting music specialist, Naomi, as well as having the opportunity to sing with choristers from the Cathedral school itself. The children have loved every minute of it and a number of pupils have shown a real talent for singing as part of a large group and they will hopefully carry this on into their futures. The final performance in the Cathedral was stunning and we were very grateful to have so many parents and carers from our school community in attendance. I’m sure you will all agree that the children did a fantastic job and represented the school brilliantly. As a school, we have been hugely grateful for the opportunity and we look forward to working on further projects in the future.

Author Visit - Thursday 9th June 2022

On Thursday we had a visit from Wells based author and illustrator of the recently published book 'The Secret Slide'; Tom and Becky Moore.  They read the story to the children and answered their questions, which the children really enjoyed!

2022 - ENRICHMENT WEEK

The children have really enjoyed enrichment week with the chance to experience different activities outside their normal time table.

Nightingale class studied abstract art based on work by the artist Kazimir Malevich. They created a giant piece of abstract art using chalk and then painted abstract art which they turned into a poem. They invented portal stories based on an art gallery and described and painted a picture that they would climb into.  Finally, they made biscuits based on abstract art designs.

Einstein created a giant collaborative class model of a spider and cooked healthy muffins. Along with Shakespeare class, they enjoyed a fantastic music and movement session with Mark White which included lots of fun activities with the piano, voice and Boomwhackers.

Shakespeare class created mood boards and tie-dyed fabric and t-shirts. They learnt how to weave paper to make mats and wove their tie-dyed fabric using looms. They also enjoyed baking healthy muffins.

Rosa Parks enjoyed drawing emojis, learnt all about the Pop-Art movement and created some fantastic Pop-Art pictures. They experienced a brilliant day trip to Shepton Mallet Prison.

Malala went with Rosa Parks to The Bishop's Palace and took part in an amazing opera workshop.  They also had fun tie-dying t-shirts and fabric.

On Thursday, all the children participated in a Martial Arts taster session with Jaime Day from Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School. It was an energetic and fun session which they all enjoyed.

Finally, the children all enjoyed making class collaborative bunting using upcycled materials with the textile artist, Jan Ollis,  from ChiChiMoi. They sewed and coloured a variety of animal designs to create their own colourful, class bunting.
