Hidden Figures - Our Celebration of Black Women at NASA

Throughout Autumn Term 2, our class have explored the roles and responsibilities held by various women of colour at NASA during the 'space race'.

Our class text allowed us to create letters, memoirs and to explore the history of Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden and their participation in some of NASA's greatest achievements.

We took time to link this to careers in the past, exploring how the women fought for their roles and had a desire to live out their dreams as experts in maths, in the present by exploring how employment rights have ensured people can work in their chosen sector without prejudice, and for the future, considering what our achievements might be when we grow up.

Careers Week -

Road.CC - Journalism and YouTube presenter

Rosa Parks and Malala had the pleasure of having Liam Cahill, from Road.CC to talk about cycling journalism and YouTube content. He explored the ins and out of sports journalism and then in depth details of producing videos for YouTube. The children then had a go at creating their own script, filming b-roll and setting up lighting for a good camera shot.

Installation Art - Spring Term 2026

Inspired by installation artist Cai Guo-Qiang, Malala Class had the opportunity to produce pieces of installation art using the theme of Stewardship and looking after our planet. Starting with the concept of ‘being an artist’, the children explored what Cai Guo-Qiang has done with his work, considering what skills an artist needs. Following this, the children then explored how the artwork could be used to link to events and production jobs, considering how light, sound and safety would be crucial to the performance. Lastly, the children explored being curators, knowing how to present and confidently talk about their work, sharing this with parents and carers in our Open Classroom.
